South East Queensland 50 year water strategy
50 year SEQ Water Strategy: Bligh Government paves the way for water security
The Queensland Government released the revised draft of the South East Queensland Water Strategy for public feedback over the next four months. The key aim of the stragey is secure water for future growth of the SEQ region.
Queensland's Water Commissioner Mary Boydell said the revised draft South East Queensland Water Strategy was based on an approach of using less, sourcing more and managing efficiently. "The vision will be delivered through demand management, timely investment ininfrastructure and the efficient operation of the SEQ Water Grid," Ms Boydell said.
Permanent water conservation measures:
- gardens and lawns can not be watered between 10 am and 4 pm when evaporation is at its greatest. Outside of those hours gardens and lawns can be watered using a bucket, hand held trigger nozzle hose or an efficient irrigation system defined in the new guidelines
- Efficient methods like a bucket, hand held trigger nozzle hose or high pressure cleaner may be used to clean vehicles, buildings and equipment.
- new swimming pools and spas can be filled with reticulated (town) water, but efficiency measures will continue to apply when topping up pools and spas
- all water use activities are to be managed within the Target 200 limit.
