Warren-Donnelly Water Plan open for public comment

The Western Australian Department of Water has released the Warren-Donnelly surface water allocation plan for a public comment period of three months. The plan sets out the department's direction for the future allocation and management of surface water in the Warren and Donnelly river basins which run through the Manjimup Pemberton districts of the South-West of Western Australia.

Wentworth Group releases controversial report on Murray-Darling

With the first draft of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan due for release and public comment at the end of next month, the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists has released a report which seeks to identify the scale of water entitlement reduction required within each of the 18 catchments of the Basin. The report also reviews the most cost-effective way to obtain the necessary water while also assisting the businesses and communities in the Basin capitalise on opportunities and adapt to a future with less water.

Water Resource Plan for the Pilbara

A 20-year plan to guide water resource management in the Pilbara was launched in Karratha last Friday by Western Australian Water Minister Graham Jacobs. The ‘Pilbara regional water plan 2010-2030' includes a five-year action plan to guide sustainable management of the region's water resources and water services.

New institute for water research in South Australia

A new $50 million water research institute will be established in South Australia to help secure and manage the State’s water supply. The State Government will provide $25 million over five years for the institute, which will be matched in kind by the CSIRO, the University of South Australia, the University of Adelaide and Flinders University.
