Call for submissions on review of Australian water reform
The National Water Commission has released a discussion paper as the first stage of its 2011 Biennial Assessment of water reform in Australia. The discussion paper invites stakeholders and other interested parties to make a submission to assessment process. The assessment will report on recent progress in implementing the National Water Initiative (NWI), and will comprehensively review the NWI including the extent to which it has improved the sustainable management of Australian water resources, contributed to the national interest, and had an impact on regional, rural and urban communities.
Water Planning in New South Wales delayed until mid-2011
The New South Wales Water Commissioner says it will be at least the middle of next year before water sharing plans are reintroduced in the state. Water sharing plans are developed in irrigation areas so that a balance is met between agricultural and environmental water needs.

National Workshop for Water Planners
The Water Planning Tools team hosted an open-space workshop with water planners from around the country in the last week of July, in an attempt to both review our project findings with water agencies and to allow water planners across Australia to identify and discuss key issues in their practice. The proceedings from this workshop are available for download.
