How to Help Small Businesses Save Water: New Toolkit
A new toolkit has been developed by researchers at RMIT in Melbourne designed to assist small businesses assess and reduce their water consumption. The online tool, which is available from the Plenty Food Group website, nests within the existing expertise and computer capabilities of most small businesses, and provides positive steps for making water savings.
The Water Toolkit was developed by RMIT in collaboration with the Smart Water Fund, Yarra Valley Water, Hume City Council, City of Whittlesea and the Plenty Food Group. It was based on a 12 month project which studied the water use and waste of 10 food manufactures, all varying in size, production volume and type. The resulting toolkit is described by the developers as a valuable workplace tool for all food manufacturers. The toolkit gives a practical understanding of water use and where savings can be affordably made for all industries.
Although the Water Toolkit was developed primarily for food manufacturers, it will be of value to other industries in assisting them to identify and prioritise water saving initiatives to maximise water savings.
