Poh-Ling Tan

poh-ling1Poh-Ling Tan is a lawyer with an understanding of relationships between policy, law and the management of water resources. As an experienced educator she is able to communicate effectively in cross-cultural settings.

Poh-Ling's areas of research are water law reform, property rights in water, sustainable management of water, water planning, and other aspects of water management.

She has been commissioned by the Queensland and NSW governments to provide legal analysis on legal issues relating to water entitlements. In 2004 Land & Water Australia awarded her a travelling fellowship to research alternative dispute resolution of water conflict.

Poh Ling was one of three scholars awarded the Inaugural Queensland-China Climate Change Fellowship in 2008.

As a member of a Resource Operations Plan (ROP) Referral Panel and the Moratorium Panel set up under the Water Act 2000 (Qld), she makes recommendations on particular issues arising from the implementation of Water Resources Plans.

She is a researcher with Tropical Rivers and Coastal Knowledge, and lead Project 1.3 which trials collaborative water planning tools in Northern Australia.
